How to Sinus Wash effectively
I have been using the Neti Pot
for a few years now, and think that it is a great tool . My
sinuses are thanking me for starting the process ever since,
and I haven’t had as bad reaction to allergens as I did back in
those days. My allergies were quite severe and I was constantly
taking meds, sprays and ongoing sessions of steroids. It took a
while for me hone my nose rinse technique down to an effective
one though. The original way of just placing your head on the
side and rinsing from left to right didn’t do that much good
for me. I tended to still have large amounts of mucous deep in
my sinuses, and this technique was only scratching the surface.
I also had a problem with my nose being to stuffy for the water
to even get through. It has now been over a year, and I
have yet to wake up with a clogged up now. This used to be a
regular thing for me back then.
Let’s get
on with the technique, and I just want to state that this has
not been developed purely by me as I have taken bits and pieces
of information over the years to piece it all together into
something that has worked tremendously for me. I would do this
in the bathtub during the shower as it does get a bit messy and
the hot steam is great for opening up the
sinuses.
Step 1.
I assume
that you know how to fill the neti pot with the right amount of
salt and water. Lift your head and look at the ceiling. Close
off one of your nostrils with one finger and place the neti pot
into the other. The water will come down and it might take you
a few tries to not choke on it. You are not swallowing it, just
keeping inside of your sinuses. Quickly close off the other
nostril with the finger and now place the neti pot in the other
nostril. Once you have enough water down inside your nose close
off both of your nostrils and move your upper body and head
down so that you are looking directly at the floor. Your feet
are still straight, but your body is leaning down. Count to
ten, and blow out all of the mucous.
Step 2.
We do the
same thing as in Step 1, except now after we have counted to
ten, we come back up so that we are looking directly at the
wall and blow out the mucous.
Step 3.
Same thing
as Step 2, except that now instead of blowing the mucous out we
snort it in and spit it out throughout the mouth. I know this
sounds disgusting, but it is the only way to completely clear
all of the areas inside of our nose that are prone to infection
and have weird substances clinging onto its
surface.
If you are
still clogged up, than repeat Step 1 - 3 once more. The
reason I believe this works is that when you have your
head upside down the saline gets deep into your sinuses
and is able to loosen things in there enough so that they
finally come out and allow you to really feel unclogged.
In the beginning my nose was in such a bad state, that
tons of clear gel type substance would come out after
this technique. I could use the Neti Pot the advised one
minute before, and this was the only way for me to really
feel relief.
